12th Annual Kids In A Box Fundraiser
September 30th 2011 - Check-In Begins at 4pm
To Benefit McHenry House Tracy Family Shelter

--== NEWS & UPDATES ==--

08/05/2011 - Details about the 2011 Kids In a Box Fundraiser, along with the new permission form has been posted below!
What do you do at Kids in a Box?
•	Kids in a Box (KIB) offers a safe place for children to have a good time while supporting their community. Campers spend the night with their chaperones in a sheltered area of St. Bernard’s school grounds.
•	Prior to coming, each camper (single or group) decorates a cardboard box to sleep in. We encourage creativity (as well as good taste). See photos of previous years’ boxes to get ideas on the slideshow provided below.
•	Campers with their chaperones can begin bringing their “shelters” at 4 p.m. September 30th. They will be assigned an area in which to camp.
•	Once checked in, campers are not allowed to leave during the evening or night, unless a parent or guardian notifies the staff. Security is provided.
•	Kids in a Box provides entertainment, a movie, dinner, snack, and light breakfast for the campers. Lights out and quiet by 11 p.m.
•	Campers clean up their area in the morning when they leave. All campers must be gone by 8 a.m. the next morning, October 1st.
•	Dumpsters are provided by Delta Disposal for quick clean-up.
•	This is a family-oriented event and many KIB participants return year after year. We hope to see you there!

How it began…
In 1999, a nine-year-old Tracy girl named Rainey Lomolino, borrowed an idea from her cousin to raise funds for the homeless. She camped out overnight in Lincoln Park in a cardboard box, like many homeless. She asked friends, neighbors, family, and businesses to sponsor her, and she raised $9,000, which she gave to McHenry House Tracy Family Shelter—the ONLY family shelter in Tracy.
This was the start of what we now refer to as “Kids in a Box”. This popular fundraiser has grown over the years and now in its 11th year anticipates over 300 campers who will try to raise at least $30,000 for McHenry House. Last year’s Kids in a Box (KIB) raised over $26,000. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to help other children who are less fortunate.
